ao1 artist research 24 marks
As a minimum you will do the following for one artist
· Artist research and analysis
· A copy of your artist’s work
· Your own version of the artist’s work – your drawing painted in their colours and style
Extension (outside of lessons)
For extra marks you could:
o Do a second copy of their work – of a different painting. It could just be a section – it doesn’t have to be the whole piece
o Do a second version of their work, based on a different one of your drawings, or painted using a different method to show that you have tried different techniques
o Research a second artist, do a copy of their work and then do your own version of the artist’s work. This would allow you to take ideas from two artists rather than just one. You will do this for the second coursework project and exam project, so it would be good practice.

· Try different painting styles and techniques (different sizes – A4, A5, little samples etc)
· Try different colour schemes
· Try out different compositions (the way you lay out your object on the page – middle? At the side? A close up?)
· Different background ideas – painting styles, textures
· Use of texture – like your seed pod experiment
· Annotate your experiments in a paragraph to explain what you did and why. What did you learn and how did things turn out? What were the strengths and weaknesses? How did your artists inspire your experiments? Etc.
Extension (outside of lessons)
For extra marks you could:
- Do more! The more experiments you have, the better. It will show the examiner that you have tried lots of different ideas as well as help you to practice your skills so your final piece will be better.
- Photograph experiments and edit them on Photoshop to show different colour schemes
- Photocopy experiments and work onto the photocopy so that you can make changes quickly
