Want some extra work to do to help you in lessons?
I have had a request for some extra work for year 10 students who want to do more work outside of lessons which is fantastic! Below, you will find a range of things to try, youtube clips to watch and attempt, plus other ideas for improving your art skills to help you in lesson.
Amy and Tom: Ignore what I said earlier and focus on natural form - don't start portraiture just yet as after talking to Mr Linington, we might be working on this project longer than I had thought!

Develop your drawing skills:
In general, the people with the best drawing skills go on to get the highest marks. Use Youtube to search for different ways of drawing natural forms. Choose a natural object to focus on (one that you would base the rest of your project on) then try the following:
- select from: fish, shells and sea objects, skulls other natural objects eg. acorns, pinecones. you may also choose flowers but perhaps avoid it for the higher marks as it can be limiting.
- draw lots of different types of your object
- if you can, collect/ photograph the object yourself - you get more marks for this.
- draw your objects from lots of different angles and viewpoints
- try lots of different drawing styles - rough and sketchy, tight and accurate, straight lines only (challenging but effective!), soft tonal shading, bold contrasting tones etc. OR Do some research and learn a new style! Develop your own individual style!
Practice using other materials:
- pencil crayons
- biro or handwriting pen
- felt tips - multiple colours, layers of cross hatching
- charcoal or pastels
- collage materials
- watercolours (you can buy a set for about £3 in the works!)
- acrylic paints
- sgraffito (google it!) - where you scratch into a surface
- other?? Find something different online!
Work onto different surfaces
- book pages (ask Miss Wilson for some out of an old book!)
- newspaper
- brown envelopes
- tracing paper
- different coloured papers
- cardboard
- thin plastic
- other??
Work in the style of different artists
Google them - find out how they create their work, look at photos then give it a go! (you can also find out basic information on each artist HERE)
-
I'll add these later!
